Crown Selection and Customization
Pre-operative Assessment
- Ensure proper diagnosis and indication for full coverage (extensive caries, post-pulp therapy, enamel defects, etc.)
- Verify that the tooth is restorable and has adequate remaining structure
- Take bitewing or periapical radiographs to assess space, adjacent teeth, and eruption status
Tooth Preparation Guidelines
- Reduction
- Occlusal : 1.5 – 2.0 mm reduction
- Axial walls : 1.0–1.5 mm circumferential reduction with feather-edge margins
- Avoid sharp line angles—round all internal line angles
- Gingival Clearance : Ensure subgingival margin (0.5–1 mm) to allow crown seating and retention
- Taper : Maintain adequate taper (6–10°) for passive fit of the zirconia crown
Crown Size Selection
- Use the PropedoZR Crown Sizing Guide (included in kit)
- Choose the smallest size that seats fully and snugly without resistance
- Test fit multiple sizes if needed—verify for:
- Complete seating without rocking
- No blanching of gingiva
- No occlusal interference
- Natural contour and esthetic harmony
Customization (if needed)
- Minor Adjustments:
- Use a high-speed diamond bur with copious water spray
- Modify internal surface—not the external surface (to preserve glaze and esthetics)
- Polishing: After adjustment, polish internal areas with zirconia polishing kits
- Cementation Surface Prep : Clean crown with alcohol or ultrasonic cleaner; optional sandblasting
